WELCOME TO MY STUDIO
You’ll discover that as soon as you walk in, the outside world fades away. Workshops can be magic like that. In here we’re equally relaxed and focused.
My ideas always begin very crisp in my mind—patterns, grids, patterns, grids. Often the pull is so strong that I can’t focus on other things until I’ve let the inspiration out. But as soon as I start, the clear constraints rub shoulders with imperfections, whether I like it or not. This is when I have to remind myself that the idea of anything being perfect is nearly an oxymoron, so I relax into the interplay of chance and control. I’ve found that every piece of art is an exercise in trusting my intuition, and I revel in throwing myself into the unknown and letting my imagination fly freely.
THE REVEAL IS A VULNERABLE, EXCITING MOMENT.
From the first idea to the end the printing process is long and unpredictable. Did I get the detailing that I wanted? Did I moisten the paper enough? Too much? Did I use the right pressure on the press?
I never know what my idea will turn into until the very end.
Over the years I’ve learned to prioritize process over outcome; allowing creative flow to be the boss and ignoring perfectionism any time it tries to pop in.
Another collagraph print in the Body Parts for Sale Series. This print is inspired by hair extensions.
I knew right away how I wanted to create this print and the whole process went smoothly and I am very happy with the end result.

Another collagraph print in the Body Parts for Sale Series. This print is inspired by surrogacy.
I wanted to achieve a feeling of being inside. Of being enfolded. I had two similar ideas, the only difference being the shape.

Another collagraph print in the Body Parts for Sale Series. This is the second of two prints I created inspired by kidney transplants.
The long diagonal scar from a kidney transplant inspired this print very literally. Even though it is almost too literal for me to feel entirely happy about it I figured that it also works well with my particular obsession with patterns and repetitions.

I had a clear idea of how I wanted this artwork to turn out and the result matches my intentions well. Maybe too obviously, or maybe not, the inspiration is red blood cells, erythrocytes.

This print is the first in my Body Parts for Sale Series.
I wanted to create something that with a movement, an inward direction kind of as the inversion of an explosion.
I started with a 1 mm cardboard that I glued vlieseline on using spray mount. The vlieseline holds a lot of ink and is a good way to achieve a black background. Then I drew all the lines. I was hesitant about if I should put the small fit in the middle, maybe it is too literal, the sperms on their way to the egg. In the end I chose to do it. I wanted the gravity in the centre.

This artwork was an experiment in using new materials to get the background black and the lines white. I made it after the Exploding Out print and wanted the opposite effect. The reveal of this one was a real wow-moment. It turned out better than I hoped. I'm fascinated by the middle of this print, by how it shows the different layers exactly as if I would've copied it.

When creating I like to repeat one element over and over again. I like how the artwork evolves, from simplicity to complexity. It also relaxes my mind, I know what to do and the process becomes almost industrial. Being a huge fan of Lord of the Rings the final result reminds me the pulsating of Sauron’s Eye. In a good way of course. What do you see when you look into this artwork?

For this print I glued row after row of white sequins. I had to take a deep breath not to correct the ones that came slightly off line, telling myself that the beauty is in the imperfections. I enjoy the transformation when I put on the greasy ink on the shiny delicate paillettes. One thing becomes something else. Not better or worse. Just a new reality.

Do you ever get that feeling that something could be seen in one way and if you look at it from another angle it could be something else. I was thinking of a forest, of what hides in-between the trees when I made this artwork. If I turn it I think of waves. A friend of mine said it was like a fence. Which side on the fence are you on, looking in or looking out? Or do you move in-between the trees?

When I sent this print to a friend he said; Now I want a cinnamon roll. Then I showed this to my mother and she started thinking of cinnamon rolls as well. What did you think of she asked me; Well, I thought about that we all are born quite alike but then as we grow we evolve differently, still our growth depend on the people and circumstances that surround us. I’ve also heard that it looks like rain falling on the surface of water or tree rings. A more abstract interpretation is that we are all connected energetically. I’m happy as long I can invoke some sort emotion in the viewer of my art. What feeling arises in your mind?

I felt almost obsessed when I made this. In between dinner and putting the kids to bed I carved lines. Repeating one line after the other. It took a while. A relaxing moment in a busy every day life. Line after line.
I’ve heard it makes people think of everything from the beginning and the end of eternity, a huge mushroom, the weirdest set of bookshelves ever made, a log and a life with lots of layers. What do you see?

I love the sea, it has such a calming effect on me. When I was young we spent summer holidays at the Baltic coast in Poland and one of my favourite things was to play in the waves. Kids and grown ups, we stood in a long line and held each other's hands and when a wave came we all jumped.
I was dreaming of the ocean when I made this. A friend of mine said it reminded her of movement in balance, others have seen words, birchs, light shining on ocean water and a balance between light and dark. What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you look at it?

My 11-year old daughter once said that the thing she likes about my artworks is that everyone can feel and see different things in it. When I asked some people what they saw they shared this:
”Reminds me of looking into a microscope and seeing a whole other world.”
”Playing marbles on draincovers as a kid. Hot sun on my back!”
What do you feel and see?

Another collagraph print in the Body Parts for Sale Series. This print is inspired by children and adoption.
This print was the most challenging to make in the whole series. I had a clear idea but couldn’t figure out what materials to use. I wanted the print to symbolise rows of children with empty spaces here and there for the children that were kidnapped for adoption. In the end I couldn’t find what I was looking for and had to change the idea to fit the materials I had available
